Tekken Tag Tournament HD is a high-definition remaster of the original title, featuring improved visuals and trophy support. It was released as part of Tekken Hybrid, but this version notably excludes the "1 on 1" single-player and "1 on 1 VS" modes from the PlayStation 2 version of the game.
Initially, Tekken Tag Tournament was offered as an expansion to Tekken 3, using the same System 12 arcade hardware.
At the time of its release, Tekken Tag Tournament had the largest character roster in the franchise, featuring 39 playable fighters. Of these, 37 were returning characters from earlier games, while two newcomers made their debut: Tetsujin, a Mokujin variant, and Unknown, the game's boss character.
